Health Care Environment
The viewing of the movie Sicko and the subsequent analysis gave me a basis for the ethics in health care and the concept of public health policy. My previous work with the Ferris State University’s Bachelor of Nursing Program allowed me to analyze the validity of the claims made by this movie. Sicko, however, did make me realize the importance of advocating for the public, not only in my hospital practice, but also across all health care environments.
In the group power point on the Use of Sucrose as an Analgesic in Infants, a case was made through evidence to advocate for even the smallest and nonverbal public. Thanks to research, there is evidence of pain in the smallest of infants and the detrimental and sometimes lasting effects of this pain. As previously mentioned, our group began to work very cohesively by the time of this final project for Nursing Research and I was responsible for the explanation of the myths and misconceptions in the use of sucrose. In addition, another member of the group and I were able to present this information at our current workplaces, earning us extra credit.
Through the assessment of the infrastructure of Mecosta County, I learned the importance of gaining knowledge about the environment where you are planning to work and using the resources available to put together a community health program. In the group ADPIE- Heart Disease- Spring into Action project, we combined the information we gained from each of our separate portions on the assessment of Mecosta County and we explored the health problems prevalent in the population of Mecosta County. The group determined which problem we would like to focus on and designed a health promotion plan utilizing the resources available. This group worked well together with all members contributing although I took a leadership role in organization of the project. This was a tremendous advancement for me from the introductory class and my fear of technology. There was almost no conflict and it is a project that truly demonstrates how many heads are better than one.
