Scholarship for Practice
The initial document attached in this section is an article review and study of methods used in a research study. It is written in the format required by the professor and not in American Psychological Association format. In it, I demonstrate my newly acquired knowledge of statistical methods. In this review, I demonstrate the understanding of how to interpret nursing research.
The next three documents were all written within the same group in my Nursing Research class. We divided the leadership role amongst the group for the projects and divided each project into individual sections. The first is a review of a qualitative research study in which my role was to evaluate whether the researcher identified the problem and its importance to nursing adequately. The various sections of the paper where then merged by the leader of the project and proofread by the group.
I was the leader for the second project, a review of a quantitative study. My individual work on the project was to review the discussion of findings. In the study, I discovered a discrepancy in the authors’ work making the findings less valid. The authors attempted to justify unexpected findings in their research with additional research that was undisclosed in the initial background. I then assembled the group’s work to merge it into the paper and it was proofread by many members of the group.
The group began to work much more as a unit in the final project. Attached here is the final paper on the use of Sucrose as an analgesic in infants. We all contributed to the project with the various studies we found. Because I found the article identifying the barriers for the use of sucrose identifying myths and misconceptions, I wrote the section on the integration of evidence. Proofreading and ensuring the ideas flowed was a group effort.
These works taught me how to locate currents studies, evaluate them and judge them as reliable for a foundation in a nursing practice based on evidence-based practice.
