Theoretical Base for Practice
In the first document and accompanying video of the section, Theoretical Base for Practice, our group examined the Watson Theory of Caring. This was during the Introduction to Professional Nursing class and my first exposure to technology and group work. I admit I was not a leader in the project as I was so overwhelmed with the technology involved. I was, however, able to look past struggles with technology to grasp the concepts of the theory and able to apply them to nursing practice. This is demonstrated by the video attachment that I wrote, directed, and appeared in as nurse “task”.
In the third attachment, our group in the same introductory class examined the use of the Theory of Human Caring in evidence-based practice. I researched the use of this theory in nursing education and as a foundation for nursing practice. Again, I was able to apply what I learned to practice but had difficulty working within a group somewhat due to the lack of proficiency with technology, although this type of group work was new also. This is exemplified by the separateness of each section in the power point presentation.
Finally, I have included the power point presentation I prepared for Nursing Capstone, as it demonstrates the use of interconnected theories to look a communication in health care. In this work, I look at cultural theories, leadership theories and conflict resolution styles to explain the barriers of communication between the health care team and then compare studies designed to reduce these barriers. This power point examines the idea of looking at communication from the viewpoint of culture and stresses how necessary it is to be able to communicate effectively within the different cultures of the health care team to ensure the safety of our clients.
